Fresh lime-green new growth gives this plant its name. Green Johnâ„¢ is very bushy, fast to establish, small, compact and dense. Small dark red bottlebrush flowers with sparkly golden tips. Height is dependent on growing conditions, generally compact at 60cm-1m.
Try it as a mixed hedge planted with Little John, Little Caroline, and Little Silver for year round colour.
Callistemon viminalis ‘Green John’ ‘LJ23’ PBR
APPEARANCE: Ozbreed variety. Small dark red brushes above fresh lime-green new growth which matures to rich green shades. Leaf is slightly longer than on Little Johnâ„¢ or Better Johnâ„¢. Establishes quickly to a height of 60 cm – 1 m. Height is dependent on growing conditions. Plants will remain more compact in dry climates.
USE IN: Borders, hedging and as a refreshing contrast to darker foliage in the garden. Beautiful for attracting small birdlife. Suited to containers.
LOCATION: Plant in well drained soil in a full sun to partly shaded position in the garden. Tolerates dry and cool conditions once established.
CARE: Mulch and water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks. Pruning is not usually necessary but may be performed every couple of years to tidy the plant and encourage new growth. Fertilise with a slow release native fertiliser in spring.
